Whole Heart Cairn

From TED Talk – Lissa Rankin, M.D. – shares what she has discovered about health and the importance of taking care of mind, body, and spirit.

Our bodies are a manifestation of our “whole” health.  She calls her theory, “Whole Health Cairn”. A cairn is one of those stacks of stones you may have seen. The stones are carefully balanced.

You can’t remove or damage one stone without destroying the balance of the whole. Our bodies are frequently symptoms of an imbalance in our mind or spirit. Her story and work fits well witBrené Brown’s work.  Whole Health Cairn supports a Wholehearted Community.  I am sitting with her wisdom.

Thanks for showing up, Elaine H.

  1. Susie – thanks for sharing. Brene Brown has tapped into the wisdom of "wholehearted living". My experience of living through my parents’ terminal illnesses woke me to the importance of actively choosing everyday what our lives are going to be. I think I have strayed a little – and it is one of the reasons digging into Brene’s work and sharing it with others is so important to me. It helps keep me "awake".My father’s live was a live well lived. In his 10 years of retirement, he served his community. From the time he was diagnosed with terminal cancer until he died 8 weeks later – his friends never left his side. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for all the friends he had who helped me carry the burden that summer. And sadly, my mother who was diagnosed only 2 week after my father was diagnosed – and lived 3 1/2 yrs more – began to withdraw and cut off her friends. I think in most ways she died when my father died. It was very hard for me to watch her reject her friends…and it was also true, most of them were really my father’s friends. Thanks for the reminder.

  2. I am so grateful for this article. I am struggling with many different health issues and I am printing out your cairne to experiment with for the next few weeks. I am so grateful for your findings, books, and wisdom!
